In 2016, Delta Air Lines launched its Delta Dugout campaign designed to encourage fan engagement with six Delta-sponsored Major League Baseball teams. We worked with Delta and experiential marketing agency MKG to create content around a series of stunts in NYC and Atlanta. The goal was to have unsuspecting fans pick up a ringing dugout phone to win free game tickets and meet some of the game’s living legends face-to-face.
We got involved in the early stages of the planning process to design an approach for capturing every aspect of the stunt and to tell the story in the most compelling way possible. Comprised of hidden cameras and microphones built into the dugouts, roving cameras and long lenses, our multi-camera system allowed us maximum flexibility and coverage.
The three 60-second spots we created successfully captured the fans’ authentic excitement and surprise as each stunt unfolded. The video content was the main objective of the activations, and it was a home run; the videos racked up millions of online views and enjoyed a lengthy in-stadium run on Jumbotrons across the country. If we learned anything from this project, it’s that when Delta calls, you pick up the phone.
